Sam Houston, a native of Colorado City, Texas, pursued his education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a B.B.A. in International Business. Continuing his academic journey, he attended Baylor University’s law school, completing his studies in an impressive two and a half years.
Commencing his legal career in the litigation section at Andrews & Kurth law firm in Houston, Texas, Mr. Houston later joined Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen in 1992, along with several litigators. He achieved the status of a partner at the firm in 1993, and in 2010, the firm underwent a name change to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston, eventually becoming Scott, Clawater & Houston. With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Houston, a former co-managing partner of the firm, specializes as a general litigator with a primary focus on professional malpractice, commercial disputes, and administrative licensing proceedings. He is also a trained mediator.
In 1995, Sam Houston obtained board certification in Personal Injury Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, maintaining recertification every five years. Additionally, he is board-certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Trial Advocacy and holds associate membership with the American Board of Trial Advocates. Recognized for his exceptional legal ability and ethical standards by Martindale Hubbell, Mr. Houston has consistently been acknowledged as one of Houston’s Top Lawyers by H Houston magazine and listed as a Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly since 2005.
Licensed to practice in Texas state and the United States District Courts in the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, as well as the United States Supreme Court, Mr. Houston has a robust litigation background, having tried numerous cases and argued in the Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Texas.
Beyond his legal career, Mr. Houston has actively participated in community affairs, dedicating his time as a volunteer for the Center for the Retarded, Inc. He has coached the Center’s softball team and Special Olympics team. Married to Jantha Houston, also an attorney, they are proud parents of two children.
