John Scott, a native of Beaumont, Texas, embarked on his academic journey by earning a BBA from the University of Texas. He then graduated with honors from the University of Houston Law School in 1981. Commencing his legal career at Andrews & Kurth law firm in Houston, Mr. Scott dedicated himself to litigation from 1981 until 1992 and achieved the title of partner in 1989.
In a pivotal career move, Mr. Scott, along with three partners, departed Andrews & Kurth to establish their own law firm, Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen. Over the years, the firm underwent name changes, first to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston, L.L.P., and later to Scott, Clawater & Houston.
With a career spanning over thirty years as a trial lawyer, Mr. Scott specializes in civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on legal and medical malpractice defense, commercial disputes, and administrative licensing proceedings before the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.
His impressive credentials include board certification in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a certification he has diligently renewed every five years since 1992. As an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Mr. Scott has garnered the highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards. Recognition as one of Houston’s top lawyers by H Houston magazine and consistent listings as a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly further underscore his legal prowess.
Having tried cases in multiple counties across the State of Texas, Mr. Scott is licensed in all Texas state courts and federal courts in the State of Texas. It is worth noting that he is now retired from his distinguished legal career. Personally, he is married to Kathy Scott, a real estate agent with a law degree, and they are proud parents of three children and grandparents to four grandchildren.
