John Scott was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. John obtained a BBA from the University of Texas and then obtained his law degree from the University of Houston, graduating with honors in 1981. He began his legal career at Andrews & Kurth where he practiced litigation from 1981 until 1992. He was named a partner at Andrews & Kurth in 1989.
John and three other partners left Andrews & Kurth and started their own law firm, Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen. In 2010 they changed the name of the firm to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston, L.L.P. The firm is currently named Scott, Clawater & Houston. Mr. Scott has practiced for over thirty years as a trial lawyer and has tried more than 40 cases to jury verdicts. He has focused his practice on civil litigation, including legal and medical malpractice defense, commercial disputes and administrative licensing proceedings before the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.
Mr. Scott is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law and has been re-certified every five years since 1992. He is also an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is rated AV, highest rating in legal ability in ethical standards, by the Martindale-Hubbell legal rating system. He has been recognized as one of Houston’s top lawyers by H Houston Magazine and is also consistently been listed as a “Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly Magazine.
Mr. Scott has tried cases in multiple counties throughout the State of Texas and is licensed in all Texas state courts and all federal courts in the State of Texas. John has been married to Kathy Scott, also an attorney, for thirty-six years. They have three children and one grandchild.
